PATIENT NOTICE

We welcomed Dr Matt Owen to the practice as GP Partner at the end of July.  Dr Owen will take over the care of Dr Burke’s patients during August. 

Dr Tim Burke has now retired from the Wallingbrook Partnership but will continue to provide the occasional GP session from September, we wish Dr Burke a very happy retirement and thank him for his contribution over the last 21 years.

We will also welcome Tom Humphreys, Nurse Practitioner to the surgery at the end of August.

Dr Diana Wielink

Utrecht (1988) ARTS, DRS, DPDDr Wielink

Dr Diana Wielink trained in Utrecht, The Netherlands, and qualified in 1988. After qualifying, she worked for Bristol Myers Squibb, a pharmaceutical company, in Holland.  In 1990 she came to England to do her vocational training and became a GP in 1993.  She joined Chulmleigh Health Centre in 1995 as a GP assistant and became a partner in 1996.  Dr Wielink has a special interest in dermatology and ophthalmology (having worked at the North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple as a clinical assistant for many years). 

Dr Wielink is married and enjoys walking, photography and holidays on the Isles of Scilly. Diana and her husband are keen choristers. They also have a little smallholding. 

Dr Tim Burke

Dr Tim Burke graduated from the University of Southampton in 1981 and has experience in healthcare both in the NHS and in Canada. Initially he trained as an anaesthetist before deciding to take up General Practice and was able to combine the two areas whilst working in rural Alberta.  Returning to the UK in 1996 he joined the Chulmleigh Practice in January 1997.

Dr Burke has particular interests in mental health and chronic pain problems and has been involved in local prescribing forums for the past ten years.  Since 2003 Dr Burke has also been involved in local NHS Commissioning bodies, helping shape local services.  He is currently Chair of Northern, Eastern & Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group.

Dr Burke is married and lives near Burrington.

Dr Will Sherlock

Sheffield (1995) Mb.ChBDr Sherlock

Dr Will Sherlock, graduated from University of Sheffield 1995. He worked as a junior doctor in Barnsley, Rotherham and Chesterfield and saw a lot of mining related lung disease. His first taste of general practice was working in Christchurch, New Zealand serving a deprived community. Dr Sherlock then returned to the UK to complete his GP training in Ross-on-Wye. Canoeing on the River Wye was great fun!

In 2002 he joined the Chulmleigh partnership after having worked as a locum GP in many of the North Devon practices. He likes evidence based medicine and one of his drivers is to minimise unnecessary and possibly harmful medicalisation. In many cases drugs aren't as good as making positive healthy lifestyle changes, it's cardiovascular exercise that keeps diabetes, depression and dementia at bay.

Dr Sherlock lives near Bideford with his partner and two children. He enjoys running, walking, gardening and housework.

Ms Karen Acott

Ms Acott qualified as a pharmacist in 1989 from Kings College, London. She has worked in various industrial, hospital and community pharmacy positions including being an area manager for a large multiple. Karen joined the NHS as Pharmaceutical Adviser in 1998. In 2004 she joined Wallingbrook as the first pharmacist partner in general practice and made headlines nationally. She since pioneered the role of a prescribing practice pharmacist and was profiled by Guardian in 2006.

She believes in delivering a high quality personal and professional service. In 2007, she was awarded 'Pharmacy Professional of the Year' and was also given a special award for 'Outstanding Contribution to Primary and Community Care' by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. This role is now being funded nationally by NHS England to ensure other practices have a practice pharmacist in their team.

Ms Acott was appointed Executive Partner in 2010 in recognition of her business and organisational development skills to ensure Wallingbrook continues to flourish through challenging times ahead.

Ms Acott is married and enjoys the pandemonium of living with her blended family.   

Dr Deepun Gosrani

Cardiff (2003) MRCGP DCH DSM Dr Gosrani

Dr Deepun Gosrani graduated from Cardiff University in 2003.  He worked around the UK doing emergency medicine and later Ophthalmology.  He worked in New Zealand in 2005 and stumbled upon North Devon upon his return in 2006.  Dr Gosrani enjoyed the area so much that he decided to do his GP training here in 2007.  In 2011 he did research and worked in a rural South African Hospital.

He enjoys the beauty of North Devon and loves surfing and walking.  He has worked in Wallingbrook Health Centre since November 2011.

Dr James Jarvie

Bristol (2002) MBChB MRCGP Dr James Jarvie


Dr James Jarvie qualified from Bristol University in 2002, and trained as a GP in the North Devon area after a brief spell working in Western Australia.


He is interested in all areas of General Practice and has particular interest in medical education, working part time at University of Exeter Medical School.


Dr Jarvie recently moved from North Devon to Exeter and is married with 3 children.
